Repairing instead of resigning

Our everyday objects are being produced more and more cheaply, are becoming increasingly difficult to repair and are being disposed of more and more quickly. 80 % do not repair because repairs are too expensive.58 % of people do not repair because it is too complicated or impractical. This shows that there is not a lack of willingness - but a lack of accessible, local infrastructure.

At the same time, there is a lack of places where people know each other, help each other and share responsibility. Neighborliness often only takes place in the stairwell. If at all.

Our idea

This is exactly where the Kreisler comes in - in everyday life. We create accessible places where repairing is normal again, help is a matter of course and participating is easier than throwing away. This is not about renunciation or morality, but about opportunities and a new freedom in dealing with resources.

Repairing things together creates more than just functioning things - it strengthens our self-efficacy. We share knowledge and build trust and new skills. Repair makes the future tangible - locally, practically and now.

How it works

The Kreisler lives from the neighborhood. As a community-based project, everyone contributes according to their own abilities. In this way, the Kreisler remains independent, stable and open to all, no matter how full your wallet is.

You come along, have something repaired, help out, learn something new or take on a shift in the store. Some share knowledge, others time - everything counts. The Kreisler works collectively: anyone who uses it is part of it.

That's where we are right now

The Kreisler works! It extends the lifespan of things, saves money and resources - and strengthens local repair skills. And it achieves something that no statistics alone can capture: People get involved, get to know each other and realize that neighbourhoods can do more. There are also more and more municipalities that are incorporating neighborhood recycling or repair centers into their climate strategies. We are a scalable and transferable model that also works in other cities - together we are learning how. We document our impact transparently and regularly.

Who we are

Wondering who is actually behind the Kreisler? We almost don't all fit on one photo, but here you can see a small part of our dedicated team. While Cléo, Max and Paula mainly coordinate the association and its future, Silvia, Ayse and Mathias, among others, are active on site. With a large group of volunteers and people from the neighborhood, we keep our first store open four days a week - and work in parallel at other locations. Soon with you?
