What if repairing were as easy as the daily trip to the supermarket?

Broken things are part of everyday life. Unfortunately, repairing them is not - not yet. We're changing that!

When every neighborhood has a Kreisler - a neighborhood recycling center - repairing becomes normal: local, affordable, natural. And our throwaway society will be a thing of the past. That's why we need you now!

What is the Kreisler?

The Kreisler is a neighborly place for circular basic supplies. A space where people come together, share or pass on things and knowledge, repair things (or have them repaired) and support each other - for less waste and more community in the neighborhood.

In other words, we make repairing, borrowing and sharing as easy as buying new - accessible and affordable for everyone. Our first location in Neukölln's Gropiusstadt district is open four days a week, centrally located and a complete success after one year.

Always a Kreisler within slipper distance

Our goal: A neighborhood repair center in every neighborhood - more Kreisler than McDonald's. Why? So that (almost) all Berliners have the opportunity to use their items for as long as possible - within walking distance and for every budget.

These locations can enable tens of thousands of repairs every year, avoid spending on new purchases, keep the streets cleaner and reduce emissions. At the same time, a Kreisler strengthens social cohesion: people come together, help each other and learn from each other.

Our demands

For our vision to become reality, we need a supportive framework that breaks down existing barriers and enables long-term impact.

1

Provide free rooms for circular centers

Municipal housing associations and other stakeholders make vacant first floor spaces and commercial premises available rent-free or at a symbolic cost for circular centers oriented towards the common good. In this way, repair becomes visible, approachable and permanently anchored in everyday life as part of public services.

Investing and setting financial incentives

Public funds have the greatest impact as long-term investments in infrastructure, supplemented by financial incentives such as the RepairBONUS. One-off start-up funding enables the establishment of a Kreisler site that is subsequently self-sustaining and has an ecological, social and economic impact over many years.

Valuing and consolidating volunteer work

Berlin's Repair Cafés are already doing a tremendous job - but have not yet benefited from the ReparaturBONUS. Planned, decentralized scaling based on the tried-and-tested Kreisler model can strengthen these initiatives in the long term: with stable framework conditions, reliable funding and the prospect of paid jobs.

Systematically build up repair expertise

In order to meet the growing demand for repairs, a new occupational profile of the "repairer" and a low-threshold qualification and recognition model for repair practice are needed. The focus here is on the transfer of knowledge, practical learning and local employment and the removal of legal hurdles.

Repairing for everyone - and with you!

Donations

Every euro goes towards our plan to build 50 Kreisler locations throughout Berlin over the next few years. Not for big profits, but for the common good. And together we can do it!

6 good reasons for a Kreisler in every neighborhood

Making repairs affordable

The Kreisler fits every budget. Even the public purse: instead of one-off subsidies through the repair bonus, the same money has a long-term and sustainable effect in permanent infrastructure.

Strengthening social cohesion

The Kreisler brings people together, combats loneliness and becomes a third place for the neighborhood.

Passing on repair skills

These important skills have been lost for decades. These important skills have been lost for decades. The Kreisler offers a space to appreciate this knowledge, pass it on and integrate the circular economy into everyday life in a practical way.

Building resilience hyperlocally

The care provided by the Kreisler in the neighborhood ensures connected neighborhoods, security and independence in times of crisis.

Improve urban cleanliness

What is repaired in the Kreisler is used for longer, saves resources and does not end up on the street as bulky waste or electronic waste. We are bringing the circular economy to the masses.

Community-based management

With the help of monthly membership fees and donations, a Kreisler location can become 100 % self-sustaining after 1-2 years. In this way, we create an independent, permanent and resilient infrastructure.

You want that too?
